Why the base matters in Dupo
This is American Bottom floodplain, deep river-laid clay, silt and sand behind a levee and drainage canal system. That ground holds water, and water under pavement lifts it every freeze-thaw winter. We check where runoff can actually go before planning anything, then dig out soft material and compact clean rock in layers.
The part of the job you can see is the last two inches. Ask what is underneath, how it will be compacted, and which way the finished surface drains.
Compacted asphaltTypically 2 to 3 in. for a car drive
Stone baseTypically 4 to 8 in., compacted
Drive on itUsually 2 to 3 days, longer in heat
First sealcoatTypically 6 to 12 months after paving
Typical ranges. Your Dupo estimate is sized to the soil, the traffic and the drainage on your property.
