Why the base matters in Eldred
Bottomland drains slowly even where it was ditched a century ago, and the bluffs send runoff down onto it. Clay-heavy soils common across the region hold whatever soaks in, and freeze-thaw winters lift the pavement above it. We set the grade first, remove soft subgrade, and compact clean rock in layers under every surface.
The part of the job you can see is the last two inches. Ask what is underneath, how it will be compacted, and which way the finished surface drains.
Compacted asphaltTypically 2 to 3 in. for a car drive
Stone baseTypically 4 to 8 in., compacted
Drive on itUsually 2 to 3 days, longer in heat
First sealcoatTypically 6 to 12 months after paving
Typical ranges. Your Eldred estimate is sized to the soil, the traffic and the drainage on your property.
