Asphalt work for Louisiana properties

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has called the downtown here the most intact Victorian streetscape in the state, and the Georgia Street district holds 55 buildings put up between about 1845 and 1935. Old buildings come with old lots: tight access, shared alleys and drainage worked out a century ago. Parking lots and driveways are our main work in town.

Highway 54 and Highway 79 meet on the west bank of the Mississippi here, and the Champ Clark Bridge carries Highway 54 across to Illinois. That traffic means commercial lots that take real trucks. We size base to the load and place hot mix in lifts. Residential drives run typically 2 to 3 inches compacted. Call (866) 490-7680 for a free estimate, and you get 25% off.

Driveway paving in Louisiana

A river-town lot can be narrow, steep or both, with a drive squeezed between houses and running down toward the street. That combination puts every storm across the pavement. We fix the grade, cut out soft subgrade, compact rock in layers, then place hot mix, typically 2 to 3 inches compacted for cars and pickups. Edges get built up where no curb holds them.

Parking lot paving in Louisiana

Downtown storefronts, churches and businesses along Georgia Street and 3rd Street run lots that share alleys and take delivery trucks in tight quarters. We plan the entrance and the turning room first, build base for the heaviest vehicle, then pave in lifts. An older lot with sound base can often be patched, overlaid and seal coated.

Road construction & private roads

Alleys, private access lanes and shared drives behind downtown buildings are regular work in a town laid out in 1816. We grade, rebuild the rock base where it has failed, crown the surface and set drainage so water leaves fast on a grade. Entrances onto Highway 79 or Business 54 get extra base.

General asphalt paving & repair

Around Louisiana we see plenty of pavement that has been patched over and over. Sometimes one more patch is the right call. Sometimes a mill-and-overlay or a rebuild saves money over the next ten years. We will lay out both options so you can choose.

Why the base matters in Louisiana

The Lincoln Hills near the river are steep, with limestone and shale outcrops on the knobs and ridges, and the bottoms below are levee-protected floodplain. Steep ground throws water at pavement edges, low ground keeps subgrade wet, and freeze-thaw winters work on both. We handle drainage first, then base, then asphalt.

Before you sign anything, get the base depth and the compacted asphalt thickness on paper. Two bids that look far apart are often just two different pavements.

Compacted asphaltTypically 2 to 3 in. for a car drive
Stone baseTypically 4 to 8 in., compacted
Drive on itUsually 2 to 3 days, longer in heat
First sealcoatTypically 6 to 12 months after paving

Typical ranges. Your Louisiana estimate is sized to the soil, the traffic and the drainage on your property.

Louisiana paving questions

Straight answers for Louisiana homeowners and property managers. Anything else, call (866) 490-7680.

Can you pave a steep downtown drive or alley?

Yes. On a grade the water plan comes first: a crown or cross slope, plus a place for runoff to go at the bottom. We also thicken the section where vehicles brake and turn. Tight access is normal downtown, and we plan staging for it.

Do you work both sides of the river up here?

Yes. The Champ Clark Bridge puts Pike County, Illinois a few minutes away, and we serve greater St. Louis on both sides of the river along with this stretch of Highway 79. Estimates are free and you get 25% off.

Should I sealcoat my new driveway right away?

No. Fresh asphalt in Louisiana needs time to cure before it is sealed, typically several months and often up to a year. Sealing too early can trap oils in the pavement. After that, sealing every few years helps it resist water, sun and salt.

Do you do smaller repairs, or only full driveways?

Both. Patching a failed section, filling cracks before winter and rebuilding an apron are regular work in Louisiana. We will tell you honestly when patching is throwing good money after bad.
