Paving New Baden from the base up

German settlers founded this village in 1855 and named it for Baden, the home many of them had left. A tornado on May 27, 1896 leveled much of it, and the principal business buildings went back up in brick. St. George Catholic Church, Gothic and brick, followed in 1907. Route 161 runs through as Hanover Street, the main east-west street, and meets Route 160 in town.

I-64 Exit 27 puts truck traffic close, which shapes the commercial work. We pave driveways and parking lots, plus access roads and yards. Residential drives typically finish at 2 to 3 inches of compacted hot-mix asphalt over compacted rock. Truck surfaces get a deeper base and more than one lift. Driveway paving in New Baden

Older drives along Hanover Street are narrow and meet the street at an apron that has taken a century of weather. Newer subdivisions have wider drives with parking pads. In both cases the base decides the lifespan. We strip soft soil, compact rock in layers, then place and roll hot mix, typically 2 to 3 inches compacted for cars and pickups. Work trucks and trailers get a heavier build.

Parking lot paving in New Baden

Lots near the interchange, businesses along Hanover Street, church and school parking, and shop pads on the edge of the village each carry different weight. We plan entrances so trucks turn without riding the edge, size the base to the heaviest vehicle, and grade to a planned drainage point. Sound lots often need only repair and an overlay.

Road construction & private roads

Private roads, subdivision streets, business access drives and farm lanes get graded, crowned and built over a compacted rock base sized to the traffic. Entrances onto Route 161 or Route 160 get the deepest base, because loaded trucks turning off a state route concentrate their weight right at the joint with the new pavement.

General asphalt paving & repair

Around New Baden we see plenty of pavement that has been patched over and over. Sometimes one more patch is the right call. Sometimes a mill-and-overlay or a rebuild saves money over the next ten years. We will lay out both options so you can choose.

Ground, water and winter in New Baden

Clinton County is a nearly level loess-covered till plain, and many of its silty soils are poorly drained with a seasonal high water table within a few feet of the surface. Flat ground and a high water table mean base preparation and drainage carry the job. We grade to move runoff, dig out soft material and compact the base in layers.

When you compare bids, ask each contractor for three numbers in writing: the compacted asphalt thickness, the base depth, and what happens to the water. Those three decide how long the surface lasts.

Compacted asphaltTypically 2 to 3 in. for a car drive
Stone baseTypically 4 to 8 in., compacted
Drive on itUsually 2 to 3 days, longer in heat
First sealcoatTypically 6 to 12 months after paving

Typical ranges. Your New Baden estimate is sized to the soil, the traffic and the drainage on your property.

New Baden paving questions

Straight answers for New Baden homeowners and property managers. Anything else, call (866) 490-7680.

Can new asphalt be tied into an existing lot or drive?

Yes. We saw a clean joint, build the base under the new section to match or exceed what is there, and set the grade so water crosses the joint instead of sitting on it. A poorly made joint is where most tie-ins fail, so it gets attention.

Which towns near New Baden do you serve?

We pave in New Baden, Trenton, Albers, Damiansville, Summerfield, Mascoutah, Lebanon and the surrounding Clinton and St. Clair County area, plus greater St. Louis on both sides of the river. Estimates are free and you get 25% off.

How long does a new asphalt driveway take in New Baden?

Most New Baden driveways are paved in one to two days once the base is ready, with more time if the old surface has to come out or the base needs rebuilding. You can usually walk on it the same day and drive on it after a few days, depending on the weather.

Can you pave a church or small business lot in New Baden?

Yes, and we phase it so the lot stays usable. Most small New Baden lots are done in sections, with the entrance kept open where possible, so a business or a Sunday service is not shut out while the asphalt cures.
