Why the base matters in Hillsboro
Hillsboro sits on hilly ground cut by the Shoal Creek watershed, and Lake Glenn Shoals was built in 1976 on the Middle Fork of Shoal Creek. On slopes, water moves fast and can wash out a weak base. On flat spots, it sits. We plan for both and build a compacted base that holds through winter freeze-thaw.
The part of the job you can see is the last two inches. Ask what is underneath, how it will be compacted, and which way the finished surface drains.
Compacted asphaltTypically 2 to 3 in. for a car drive
Stone baseTypically 4 to 8 in., compacted
Drive on itUsually 2 to 3 days, longer in heat
First sealcoatTypically 6 to 12 months after paving
Typical ranges. Your Hillsboro estimate is sized to the soil, the traffic and the drainage on your property.
