A coal shaft came first in Panama. The Shoal Creek Coal Company completed it in 1906, the village was founded after, and labor leader John L. Lewis worked as a miner here from 1909 to 1915. The ridge between Shoal Creek to the west and Bearcat Creek to the east gives water somewhere to go, but slopes down toward either creek can wash out a thin base. Slow-draining soils and winter freeze-thaw do the rest. We build compacted base on firm ground and set grades that move water off without cutting under the edges.
The part of the job you can see is the last two inches. Ask what is underneath, how it will be compacted, and which way the finished surface drains.

Grading and a solid base. We shape the drive so water runs off to the side instead of down the middle, compact the base so it cannot wash, and add a ditch or culvert where water crosses. Then hot mix seals the top. We lay it out in a free estimate with 25% off.
Once the base is ready, hot mix is spread and compacted with rollers while it is still hot. Keep cars off for a few days and heavy trucks off longer, and expect the surface to stay slightly soft in summer heat while it cures. We go over timing during your free estimate.
