A driveway on bluff ground usually climbs or drops, and water follows it either way. We set the crown and cross slope so runoff leaves at the sides instead of running the length of the drive into a garage. Soft or washed-out base comes out, clean rock goes in and gets compacted, then hot-mix asphalt, typically 2 to 3 inches compacted for cars and pickups.
